Default Kelly Blue Book Value on RT SE5 Limted

I was thinking of trading my 2013 Spyder RT Limited in on a 2014 RT. When I looked in the Kelly Blue Book for trade it states $18,200 and $22,730 to sell myself. I originally paid $28,500 for the bike back during April 2013. These bikes decrease so fast that I'm thinking it's best to wait on the 2014 til the 2015 comes out. A $10K drop in value less than a year is crazy.

I got offers from 2 dealers, $10K and my 2013 RT Ltd for a 2014. Consistent!

Unfortunately I think you are going to find that it will keep going down due to the demand of the 1330. One reason I jumped early.

Really, and I suppose the 2013 debacle had nothing to do with the sudden drop in value/pricing of that year and in fact, previous years. Please! Save the hippy showers for the uninformed.

Supply and demand. That all there is to it!
Right now the 2014's are the hottest thing in the Spyder market, while the 2013's are the leftovers.
Riding season is here, so some are trying to sell their older ride for a new one. The same thing happened in 2010 when the RT's came out and in 2013's when the ST came out.
    Wait a few years... don't

    And I love my 2013!Dragon.jpg

Trouble is, many of the 2013s were discounted NEW down below 20k when 2014s went on sale. This directly effected resale values.

IMO: A combination of the "new and improved" for 2014 and the issues that caused the 2013 to be an "unlucky" year for some. Add in that the 2014 RT's are moving like hotcakes, and you have a scenario that is not good for those wanting to trade an upline RTL 2013.

You are probably better off to try selling outright. You may find someone willing to pay more.

I took about an $8,000 "hit" when I traded my heavily farkled 2008 GS for the 2010 RTS. But had to have it now--and it turned out to be a good move. It has served me well and will soon be going to another lucky person.

Welcome to the cruel world of vehicle pricing. NADA sell it yourself prices are optimistic, seldom gotten. 1st year drop is greatest. Not so much from now on.

Asking price does not determine values. Selling prices does. Motorcycle sellers typically believe their bikes are worth up 20% more than the real world market will pay.

I very much agree. As the values of the 2014s drop and the 2013s stabilize, I think the difference in value between them will land pretty close to the difference between other year RTs. The glut of 2013 leftovers selling new for below 20k appears to be mostly gone and used values have already recovered a bit. Will likely stabilize now and the 2014s will start to come down once production catches up with supply and the 2015s come out....

The 2014s have not been without their share of problems too. In the end, it will even out in the market place.

I have watched many 2012 RTs with low miles go on Ebay (sell) in the 15-16000$ range. In my opinion it has to do with the 2014s being so hot.

I notice you have the belt guard. Does it really work toward protect the belt?

It seems to work great! It does enclose the belt so that debris can't get up there

We saw the same thing when the 2007 Harley touring bikes came out with the 96 cu in engine and 6 speed tranny. The value of the 2006 tourers dropped considerably as everyone wanted the bigger engine and 6 speed. After a couple of years, things settled down and the difference in values was much less.

    While I wouldn't mind having a 2014, I don't want it bad enough to take a $10,000 bath.

I bought an Rt Limited 30 DAYS AGO and told the dealer I wanted to trade it in on a Gold Wing - 22000 trade in!!!!! Don't buy a CAN AM if you ever plan on selling or trading or using.
